Programs
Our students are our best resource. The Division of Social Sciences offers four undergraduate degrees and one graduate degree. Faculty advise many student organizations, help with undergraduate and graduate research projects, and have accompanied students on study abroad trips. Usually first year students are advised by professional advisors, but are highly encouraged to come talk to an advisor in their fields. Students must meet with an academic advisor every semester to register for courses and check on degree progress.
Students who do not know who their advisor is, should consult PV Place or visit the Division office in 102 G.R. Woolfolk Social & Political Science Building or call (936) 261-3200.
African American Studies
African American Studies is an interdisciplinary academic pursuit that explores and elucidates the lived experiences of African descendant people in the United States and globally. The African American Studies program ultimately seeks to equip the next generation of academic scholars, activists, and leaders. The Division offers the BA in African American Studies and a minor in African American Studies.
History
The History Program offers a Bachelor of Arts that is designed to prepare students to be critical thinkers and leaders in various professions. What can I do with a degree in History?
Political Science
The Political Science Program offers a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science designed to prepare students to be critical thinkers, leaders, and public servants. What can I do with a degree in Political Science?
Sociology
The Sociology Program houses the Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Master of Arts in Sociology. The program gives students a strong foundation in social issues advocacy, public policy, and applied research.
Minors and Special Programs
The Division houses two support programs of Geography and Philosophy. In addition, we also manage the Legal Studies, Behavioral Sciences, Philosophy, and African American Studies minors.
