Betty Ricks is the associate vice president for academic financial affairs at Prairie View A&M University. She notes nearly three decades of fiscal experience with the university.

As overseer of the all academic-related fiscal affairs, Ricks provides professional accounting services and advanced budgeting and spending advice to the university’s provost as it relates managing current, as well as future budget projections in academic units. She also administers the preparation of the annual operating budget processes, and coordinates the work of unit budget personnel to ensure accuracy and completeness.

Ricks has an extensive, varied history of fiscal experience within higher education. Her earlier roles were with her alma mater, the University of Houston, where she worked her way up the ranks through student loan counseling and institutional policy compliance, to becoming the assistant controller of payroll. Ricks’ responsibilities for the management and supervision of the university’s approximate 8.2 million monthly payroll gave her the experience needed to work at the University of Texas at Tyler as the director of personnel and payroll and business manager. Since joining PVAMU in 1986, she has served as a system analyst, manager of financial reporting, manager of budgets and payroll and assistant controller.

Ricks is a graduate of the University of Houston, where she received her bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
