The Prairie View A&M University Emergency Operations Center is your resource for up-to-the-minute information about campus emergency incidents including: school closures or announcements about inclement weather conditions in our area. In case of an emergency, PVAMU wants to protect its greatest assets, our students, faculty and staff. To keep the PVAMU campus communities informed in the event of an emergency, the University has established the Panther Alert System. The system, will notify the campus community of emergency situations (severe weather, serious threats to safety, etc.) via phone, text messages, and e-mails. Services

The Prairie View A&M University Police Department provides an array of services for the students, faculty, staff and university community. Follow the links to review the services which are now available. Should you have any further questions, you may contact the department at (936) 261-1375.

The Security Officers will secure assigned areas by observing and reporting prowlers, fires, equipment failures and other irregularities. The primary duties consist of closing and locking of doors that have been left open; turning lights off and as necessary; reporting emergency conditions such as fires and water leaks; keeping unauthorized persons from entering prohibited areas; checking packages to determine if State property is being removed from the building or area; issuing University parking citations on campus; following all security procedures, operating security equipment; writing reports, communicating verbally and in writing to management, staff, faculty and students or other professionals concerning the facility; explaining policies or procedures to others; properly identifying visitors, students and staff upon entering facility and monitoring movement throughout the buildings.

This position is classified Security Sensitive; therefore, requiring a background check.

Escorts are available for on campus locations only by calling the Department of Public Safety at (936) 261-1375. You may also use one of the emergency Blue Light (phones located throughout campus) if you find yourself in need of an emergency escort.

Vehicle jump starts are provided to all University/Community members while on the Prairie View A&M University campus. Call (936) 261-1375 for assistance.

The Blue Light Phone boxes located throughout the campus may be identified by the square blue light phone. In order to operate, just open the box and press the red button located inside the box. By pressing the red button, your call is immediately connected with the UPD Dispatcher’s Office on campus. In the event that an attacker pulls you from the phone, the system is designed to tell the dispatcher where you are located (i.e., the phone from which you called). Immediately, an officer will be dispatched your location.
